47 days. That’s how long this incredible journey has taken—a testament to perseverance, determination, and a little bit of magic. Sometimes, it takes one special person to reach a dog, someone they bond with in an unexplainable way. We call her “Wylie’s Angel.”

Wylie’s story began when Passion 4 Paws Vermont rescued her from a euthanasia list and brought her to safety. But after escaping a local boarding facility by scaling an 8-foot privacy fence, this 25-pound Chihuahua-Dachshund mix embarked on a survival adventure in Greer, South Carolina. She made her way to a neighborhood under construction, where she felt at ease despite the constant bustle of workers. For weeks, she evaded every effort to catch her—a literal game of cat and mouse. Traps, drones, and even bacon-frying lures couldn’t entice her.

Then, after 43 days, a breakthrough: Wylie followed two women walking through the neighborhood. It couldn’t be the same dog, could it? But it was. Somehow, she found comfort and safety in their presence. One of these women, Wylie’s “Angel,” became the key to saving her.

Day after day, Wylie grew closer to her. The change was almost magical—Wylie wasn’t just surviving anymore; she was thriving. She wagged her tail, played, and even sought out her “Angel” every morning. For a week, we watched as Wylie transformed, leaving behind her fear and embracing trust.

Then, the moment we’d been waiting for: Wylie followed her “Angel” home. For two days, she stayed, basking in the sun, playing with toys, and simply being a dog again. It was clear—this was where she would be safely captured.

The trap was set with help from the “Angel’s” family and our dedicated team, who ensured every detail was perfect. Within 10 minutes, Wylie walked into her forever after. Her tail wagged as she saw her favorite person, her guardian angel, the one who made her feel safe and loved.
