FAQs

Find answers to the most common questions about our trapping services, how we can help with missing pets, and what you need to know when working with us. Whether you're looking for advice on setting traps, hanging flyers, or understanding our process, this FAQ will provide helpful guidance and important details.

Are you a registered non-profit organization?

Yes, we are a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. This means all donations made to us are tax-deductible to the fullest extent allowed by law. Your support helps us continue our mission to assist pets and strays in need. Our Tax ID/EIN is 92-3781695 for your records.

Do you trap cats/kittens in addition to dogs?

Yes, we do trap cats and kittens! If your cat is missing or if you want to give a stray a home, we can definitely help. While we don’t offer TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return) services, we can loan you a trap and guide you through the process if needed. We really appreciate those who support TNR!

Do you trap and take in strays?

We love helping strays get off the street and into a home of their own. However, since we are only 10% rescue, we do not have fosters available to take in strays. In addition, we will not trap strays to take them to the shelter. Strays must have someone ready to care for them, including vet needs and providing a loving home. If you can't adopt the stray, we can give you a list of rescues that might be able to help. We REQUIRE that an adopter or rescue is lined up before we begin trapping.

***Also, the stray must be scanned for a microchip, and efforts to find and return the pet to the owner must be made.***

Do you only trap in Greenville, SC?

NOPE! We are licensed in both South Carolina and North Carolina. We also service limited areas in Georgia.

How far will you travel?

We typically do not travel more than 2 hours away. However, there are exceptions in certain cases (additional charges may apply).

Do you offer tracking services?

No, we don’t provide tracking services directly. However, we do collaborate with several tracking organizations and can refer you to them if it becomes necessary. As long as you’re receiving sightings of your dog, a tracker isn’t needed and could actually hinder the recovery process.

How soon can you come out to help trap a missing pet or stray?

Each case is unique, and there are many factors we need to consider before setting a trap and beginning the process of capturing a missing pet or stray. These factors include gathering accurate sightings, preparing the area, and ensuring the proper resources are in place. While we work as quickly as possible, the timeline will depend on these variables to ensure the best chance of success.

How much do you charge for trapping a dog?

The fee starts at $50 and is adjusted based on the distance traveled. We keep this charge reasonable, taking into account the number of trips we make to and from the location (typically four or more). This fee covers the initial baiting, trap setup and removal, as well as ongoing surveillance.

Are the traps humane?

Absolutely - our traps are 100% safe and humane!

How big are the traps?

  • Our Anakin Missy traps are 8x8 pens that stand 6 feet tall.

  • Our Anakin Jr. trap is a 5x10 pen that stands 6 feet tall.

  • We have large box traps for small to medium-sized dogs, as well as traps for cats.

Can we set the trap up anywhere?

If you want to avoid catching everything but the dog, it's important to follow our proven process. We work in three phases, with trapping being the final step. There’s a careful and strategic approach that must be followed beforehand. Trust the process!

Do you do everything for us from start to finish?

While we would love to support you every step of the way, it’s just not possible. At any given time, we are managing over 10 cases, and we are a small team of volunteers with our own families and jobs. However, this approach allows us to help even more pets and strays. We will provide guidance and training on setting up food stations, hanging flyers, baiting traps, understanding how they work, and retrieving them.

What are the best locations, quantity, and methods for hanging and distributing flyers?

We recommend hanging 50 flyers within a 2-mile radius of where the pet went missing. Put flyers at all major intersections where cars stop, so drivers have time to see them. Good places to hang flyers are stop signs, power poles, and trees in rural areas. You can also hand them out to neighbors and businesses that allow them.

To protect the flyer from rain, place it in a sheet protector with the opening at the bottom. Use shipping tape across the top to stick it to stop signs or poles, and add a piece at the bottom to keep it secure and from falling out. Check out the example of what it should look like on a stop sign HERE.

What information needs to be on a "Lost Pet" flyer?

Your flyer should feature a LARGE, clear picture of your pet and a phone number that can be answered at all times. We prefer to create the flyers ourselves, as we design them with bright colors to grab attention. We include 'LOST DOG' in bold across the top and the phone number at the bottom. We don’t recommend mentioning a reward on the flyer. Check out the example flyer HERE.
