When four blue tick hound puppies were safely trapped last week, there was still one small soul left behind.
A single puppy alone in the woods.
Tippy had watched every one of her siblings disappear into the trap. Because of that, she no longer trusted anything near the feeding area. The only person she trusted was the caretaker who had been feeding her, her siblings, and their mother since they were born.
For five days, team members Debbie, Beth, and Ashley returned to the area again and again, working alongside the caretaker to try to safely trap Tippy. Each attempt came up empty.
Tippy never arrived on their schedule.
Meanwhile, she was becoming bolder, even crossing the road at times. The urgency to get her safe grew with each passing day.
It was decided that an automatic trap would give the best chance, since Tippy always came to the feeding station alone.
On Sunday, Beth and Debbie handled the operation while Ashley stayed in contact by phone. The trap was carefully prepared and checked.
Two long hours passed.
Nothing.
As the team began to feel defeated and prepared to shut the trap down for the night, Beth heard rustling nearby. There, in the yard, was Tippy—scratching her ear, completely unaware she was being watched.
Beth quietly finished setting the trap and hurried back to the vehicle.
Moments later, the trap door closed.
Tippy was caught.
She would not spend another cold night alone.
Tippy was reunited with her siblings and is now in the care of Mercy Rescue Haven, where she is staying with an amazing foster family on a farm.
At Anakin’s Trails, we are not a rescue. We are a stray and pet recovery organization that helps lost pets and stray animals be located, trapped, or recovered so they can be reunited with their families or find a new forever home.
Next up: mama. 🐾❤️
