Sometimes, the animals we are asked to help surprise us—and Lucky certainly did.
Anakin’s Trails was originally contacted about a stray dog that had been dumped in Townville. A feeding station was set up, and plans were underway to begin trapping. Then something unexpected appeared on camera: a black-and-white animal with a big snout cleaning out the dog food bowls.
It wasn’t a dog at all. It was a pig.
At first, everyone assumed Lucky must be someone’s pet who had wandered off. But after speaking with local residents, it became clear that this pig had been roaming the area for nearly four months, crossing a busy two-lane highway daily and trying to survive on his own.
The situation was extremely dangerous. Lucky could easily be hit by a car or injured by other animals. With permission from the property owner, Anakin’s Trails stepped in to help.
Straw and food were provided to give Lucky some comfort while a safe placement was arranged. We then reached out to Moo-Moo Meadows Sanctuary, and they agreed to take Lucky in.
Next came a first for our team—trapping a pig using a box trap. With patience, teamwork, and careful planning, Lucky was gently guided into the trap and safely secured.
Lucky was then transported to Moo-Moo Meadows Sanctuary, where he will live among other rescued pigs and receive lifelong care.
Anakin’s Trails is not a rescue organization. We are a stray and pet recovery organization. We help locate, trap, and recover animals so pets can be reunited with their families and strays can find their new, forever home.
No more crossing highways, Lucky. Your days of danger are over, and a happy farm life awaits. ❤️
