Sometimes, timing is everything.
Anakin’s Trails was contacted about a small terrier-type dog who had been living near railroad tracks and hiding in nearby bushes whenever people approached. A local woman named Alainah had been watching out for her and wanted to help get her to safety.
The goal was to establish a feeding station so the little dog would return regularly. When volunteers arrived, they discovered that several kind people had already been leaving food for her. While it was comforting to see so much care, the dog was still living outdoors on a very busy road with cold weather approaching.
A camera and feeding station were set up, and within an hour, the tiny dog appeared to eat. Unfortunately, the camera was later stolen, making it harder to monitor her movements. Still, the team did not give up.
Weeks passed as schedules and timing didn’t quite line up. Then came a day when a major temperature drop was forecasted. Everyone knew this 7-pound pup would not survive the freezing cold.
Co-Director Debbie picked up a trap and met Alainah near the railroad tracks. They set the trap and waited.
Within an hour, the small black pup stepped out of the brush and walked into the trap.
Cherry was safe—just hours before the big freeze.
Cherry was then transported to a rescue partner where she will be warm, cared for, and given the chance to find a loving forever home.
Anakin’s Trails is a stray and pet recovery organization. We help locate, trap, and recover animals so pets can be reunited with their families and strays can find a new, forever family.
No more running the railroad tracks, Cherry. You’re safe now. ❤️ 🐾
