✔️✔️ WE GOT SALUDA! ✔️✔️

On a freezing 26-degree night, a tiny apricot-colored Mini Schnauzer with the most striking bronze eyes wandered back and forth along a bridge, refusing to leave a suspicious trash bag nearby. It was heartbreaking to imagine how she got there, and her loyalty to that spot made it even worse—how could anyone abandon such a sweet and beautiful dog? Though skittish, she showed a gentle nature as she kept her distance, her soft curls shining in the cold night air.

By midnight on Monday, local residents Linsey and Jamie couldn’t stand to see this poor dog shivering in the cold any longer. They contacted Anakin’s Trails after trying everything they could to coax her to safety, only to have her retreat further. With countless tags and messages pouring in, it was clear we had to act fast.

When I arrived, I found Linsey and Jamie—wrapped in pajamas and slippers—braving the freezing temperatures on the bridge. Their dedication was incredible, and honestly, it’s what saved this dog from almost certain tragedy. Cars sped by on the dark bridge, and we all had to work together to slow traffic while setting the trap.

The little Schnauzer watched from a distance, curious about the smells of the bait we were preparing. We padded the floor of the trap to make it less intimidating and filled it with increasingly tempting treats. As we worked, her trust began to grow. A friendly acquaintance of hers, someone she seemed to find comfort in, sat nearby, chatting casually as if nothing unusual was happening. The goal was to make her feel safe, not pressured.

Finally, curiosity won out. Lured by the promise of better treats deeper in the trap, she stepped inside—and the door gently closed behind her.

Frail and scared, she shivered as we carefully placed her in Linsey’s car. But despite her fear, there wasn’t a hint of aggression, just quiet confusion and exhaustion.

And just like that, Saluda’s days of waiting on a cold, dangerous bridge were over. No more freezing nights or dodging speeding cars. Saluda, tonight you’re heading to a warm, safe home where you’ll never have to feel abandoned again.

Sometimes, saving a life means turning up the crazy—like trapping a Schnauzer on a bridge at 1:00 AM with three equally crazy dog lovers. But hey, what’s life without a little adventure? 🐾

Here’s to you, Saluda. Your warm couch is waiting! 🛋️❤️
