✔️✔️ WE GOT SADIE!! ✔️✔️
Losing a pet is a soul-crushing experience—one that leaves you feeling helpless, heartbroken, and desperate for answers. It’s a feeling I know all too well. I remember the day Anakin escaped. The night I walked up the stairs to my room without him was one of the hardest moments of my life. He was my family’s dog, but more than that, he was the one. The one I surprised my four boys with for Christmas. The one who brought our family joy. Losing him felt like a punch to the gut.
I spent 29 long days searching for him, praying for answers, and asking over and over: Why him? Why me? Why now?
I didn’t understand it then, but I do now. It was for moments like this—moments like Sadie’s homecoming after 29 days on the run.
Sadie’s story began just before the holidays, during a season of joy for many, but a time of heartache for her family. While staying at the owner’s son’s house, Sadie—a beautiful 5-year-old German Shepherd—found herself in unfamiliar surroundings. Scared and confused, she escaped.
For 29 days, there were no sightings. No clues. Just silence.
The family held out hope, but as the days dragged on, fear and despair crept in. Then, just a few days ago, they finally got what they had been waiting for—a sighting.
They contacted Anakin’s Trails, and team member Sharon took on the case immediately. With little time to waste, she mapped out the most likely locations where Sadie might be, and the team set up a food station with a camera to confirm it was her.
The wait began.
Almost 24 hours later, there she was—Sadie’s sweet, familiar face popped into view on the camera. It was her. She had found the food station, and we knew it was time to set the trap.
Mike, Sharon, and Joyce headed out to the location, ready to bring Sadie home. The trap was set, and the family’s hope grew stronger.
But, as with many rescues, things didn’t go quite as planned. Just before sunset, a maintenance issue with the trap threatened to delay the rescue. We couldn’t afford for anything to go wrong—not when Sadie was this close to safety. Joyce rushed to grab spare parts and, within the hour, the trap was back up and ready.
Now, it was really go time.
Based on experience, we knew that once a dog finds a food station, they tend to come back much earlier the second time. Sure enough, not long after the trap was repaired, Sadie’s head popped around the corner. The adrenaline kicked in—this was it.
I called her owners to tell them what they already knew. They were already on their way, eager to see their beloved girl.
And what a reunion it was.
When Sadie saw her owners, her tail started wagging, and she jumped with joy. As her owner knelt down, she ran straight into his arms and collapsed into his lap. It was as if no time had passed—the connection was instant, the love unmistakable.
The nightmare was over.
Sadie may have missed this Christmas with her family, but she’s home now. Safe. Loved. And she’ll be there for every holiday to come.
No more wandering, Sadie. You’re back where you belong. ❤️🐾
