In an area filled with farms, pastures, and working dogs, the last thing anyone expected to see wandering around Anderson County, South Carolina was a Golden Retriever. But for about a week, that’s exactly what the community noticed—a beautiful golden girl crossing a highway and traveling along nearby back roads.

A concerned resident named Kristen reached out to Anakin’s Trails after repeatedly seeing the dog in dangerous areas. Neighbors had already begun helping by offering food and keeping an eye on her, doing everything they could to make her feel safe.

Kristen also connected with a local farm rescue property owner who agreed to help if the dog could be safely recovered. With permission secured, volunteers met at the property and began preparing a trap in an area where the dog was frequently seen.

Cold temperatures and strong winds made the setup challenging, but the trap was carefully placed along the tree line. That evening, the team spotted Lassie on camera moving across the property, but she didn’t come close enough to be caught. The trap was left baited and ready for the next day.

Early the following morning, Lassie appeared again. Volunteers coordinated with the property owner, and the trap was set live. After some waiting, Lassie returned later that afternoon, hungry and curious.

She walked into the trap and was safely secured.

With the help of volunteers and the property owner, Lassie was retrieved and transported to Moo-Moo Meadows, a local farm rescue partner that agreed to provide veterinary care and help find her a safe, loving home.

Anakin’s Trails is a stray and pet recovery organization. We help locate, trap, and recover animals so pets can be reunited with their families and strays can find a new, forever home.

No more wandering the roads, Lassie. You’re safe now. ❤️🐾
