Gunter Is Safe - Rescued 11/14/25

Sometimes all an animal needs is one person who cares.

About two weeks ago, Anakin’s Trails was contacted about a small puppy who had been dumped on Emily Lane in Piedmont. The puppy was scared, alone, and dangerously crossing a busy two-lane road where cars were traveling fast.

A local resident named Bryanna had been feeding the puppy and watching out for him. When our team stopped by the area, a food station and camera were set up so we could monitor him and begin working toward a safe recovery.

The first night, nothing appeared on camera, and everyone feared the worst. But the next day, a tiny speckled nose showed up on screen, and hope returned.

Volunteers placed a trap and waited for the puppy—later named Gunter—to return. At first, he walked right into the trap area, giving everyone hope that the recovery would be quick. But Gunter proved to be a clever little pup.

For an entire week, volunteers spent hours each day monitoring the trap. Gunter would often appear shortly after the team left, and he never came around after dark. It was frustrating and exhausting, but no one gave up.

A new plan was created to make sure volunteers covered the trap area throughout the entire day. On the final afternoon, just a couple of hours before sunset, Gunter crossed the busy road one more time and headed toward the trap.

Drawn in by the smell of food, Gunter walked into the trap and was safely secured.

Within minutes, Bryanna and team members arrived, and Gunter greeted everyone with kisses.

Tonight, Gunter is warm, safe, and surrounded by love. He is experiencing indoor life for the first time—hearing laughter, playing in hallways, and curling up in a cozy bed.
