There are some places our team returns to that start to feel like home. We’ve helped dogs there before, we recognize familiar faces, and we’re reminded just how much a caring community matters. The town of Westminster is one of those places.

For months, a shy blue pit bull had been living around a golf course and a nearby vacation home. She found shelter on a porch with multiple steps, giving her easy escape routes whenever she felt unsafe. The community began calling her “Chicksie,” inspired by the area, and several kind neighbors quietly made sure she had food and water.

One of those neighbors, Michelle, reached out to Anakin’s Trails asking for help. She had contacted us before about another stray who is now happily living in a home of his own, and she hoped we could do the same for Chicksie.

Our team met with Michelle, her husband, and others from the neighborhood to set a humane trap. Chicksie watched closely from her porch as people gathered—curious, cautious, but clearly interested in what was happening.

During the setup, it became clear that a manual trapping approach would work best. With calm voices, patience, and gentle encouragement, volunteers slowly guided Chicksie toward the trap using treats. After several careful moments, she stepped inside—and the door safely closed behind her.

Chicksie immediately showed her gentle nature. Instead of fear, she offered soft eyes and kisses to the people around her. It was obvious she wanted connection and was ready for a family.

Her new adopters were already on site and fell in love with her right away. They chose to rename her “Chancey,” meaning “second chance,” which perfectly fits her story.

At Anakin’s Trails, we are not a rescue. We are a stray and pet recovery organization. Our role is to locate, trap, and recover lost pets and stray animals and reunite pets with their families and help strays find their new, forever family.

No more sleeping on porches or wandering alone, Chicksie—now Chancey. Your next chapter leads to a loving home and a bright future. 🐾❤️
