Anakin’s Trails was contacted about a young pit mix who had been roaming near a busy road in Greenville. A kind couple, Jonathan and Caitlyn—regular volunteers with the Greenville Humane Society—had noticed her and spent weeks trying to help. They fed her consistently and tried to earn her trust, but she was too fearful to allow anyone close enough to help her safely.

With traffic speeding past the area she roamed, it was only a matter of time before something tragic could happen. Jonathan and Caitlyn knew she needed help quickly, so they reached out to us.

On Tuesday evening, we met to set up a feeding station and camera. The goal was simple: confirm that the same dog was returning to eat and learn her routine. They followed the plan perfectly, and that night, the camera showed the brindle girl coming back—more than once. It was clear she was still in the area and still surviving on her own.

The next step was getting her safely off the streets. On a rainy morning, Sharon and Mike carefully placed a humane trap in a quiet, safe location where she felt comfortable eating. From there, all we could do was wait and hope she would trust the trap enough to go inside.

And she did.

In broad daylight, Aspen walked into the trap, bringing weeks of planning and patience to a successful close. Later that day, final preparations were made, and not long after, we spotted her playing in a nearby field. Once we moved out of sight, she made her choice—and took the plunge.

When we arrived, we were greeted by a very young, curious pup staring back at us. Within minutes, she was eating right out of our hands, ready for her freedom ride.

Aspen is now safe and no longer roaming dangerous roads. She will be adopted out through the Greenville Humane Society, where she’ll have the chance to find a loving home.

This is what Anakin’s Trails does: we locate, track, and safely recover lost and stray animals, working alongside community members and partner organizations to give animals like Aspen a second chance. We’re not a rescue—but we’re proud to be part of the journey that gets them to safety. 🐾💙
