A Year Later, Cope Is Safe - Rescued 11/6/25

For nearly a year, a thin and frightened dog wandered through a public park in Oconee County. Families walked by, children played, and security officers patrolled the area—but Cope remained out there, unnoticed and without help.

Finally, two people spoke up.

Stephanie contacted Anakin’s Trails about a skinny Weimaraner/Pit mix who desperately needed assistance. The challenge, as with many cases, was finding someone willing to take him in once he was safely recovered.

That missing piece came when Stephanie met Chris.

Chris had been trying every day to earn Cope’s trust. He would park nearby and patiently attempt to lure Cope into his vehicle, but Cope’s fear of people—likely from past mistreatment—kept him at a distance. Still, Chris never gave up.

When Stephanie realized Chris was willing to give Cope a home, she immediately reached out to Anakin’s Trails.

Volunteers traveled to Seneca to assess the situation. Cope was skittish, and timing didn’t work out that first day. With cold temperatures approaching, the team worried about how he would survive another night.

The next day, volunteers returned with a trap.

This time, Cope walked into the trap almost immediately—motivated by food and ready for a chance at something better.

Stephanie arrived to say goodbye, and soon after, Chris came to pick up Cope. Cope climbed into Chris’s vehicle and headed home—only five miles away, but a world apart from life on the streets.
